5th graders are working on geometry and measurement. We are currently discussing the properties of triangles and quadrilaterals as well as angle measurements. There is a quiz on 1/18 over quadrilaterals and angles.
Remember to master at least 5 topics on Aleks weekly and spend 1 hr. per week on First in Math. Let me know if you have problems with either of our online math programs.  |

1. Homework- Homework will be assigned Monday through Thursday nights. I will collect homework each day and send home a homework notice for any missing homework. I will grade one homework assignment each week. You will not know ahead of time which assignment will be graded, so it is important to complete all homework. The purpose of homework is to practice mathematical concepts as well as responsibility.
2. Aleks- The students are expected to master a minimum of 5 topics each week. They will have some opportunities to use Aleks in school. If computer access is a problem please communicate that with me so we can make other arrangements. There is no paper form to return to school. I will monitor the students’ progress online and record it in the grade book. Quicktables will be used to master multiplication and division facts.
3. In-class Activities- The students will participate in class activities every day. These will be in the form of group work, hands on activities, games, and problem solving. I will take one grade for in-class activities each week, usually in the form of participation points. It is important that the students participate in all class activities; they will not know which activities I will be counting for a grade.
4. Quizzes- There will be one or two short quizzes for each Investigation, about every week or two. You will know in advance when the quizzes are scheduled and what will be covered. The quizzes will be weighted more than homework and in class activities.
5. Vocab Quizzes- There will be occasional quizzes over math vocabulary. You will know in advance when the quizzes are, and any vocab words that have been introduced may be on the quiz. Please refer to the vocab section of their binders.
6. End-of-Unit Assessment- At the end of each unit, there will be a formal assessment. You will know in advance when the assessment is scheduled and what will be covered. This will be weighted more than other assignments.
Profit From Mistakes- If you are unhappy with a homework grade, you may redo the assignment and fill out a profit from mistakes form. I will change the grade without any penalty. If you are unhappy with a quiz or test grade, you may correct the test, fill out the form, and I will average the two quiz/test scores and update the grade book.
